  • Did you know: trade conditions on draft picks in 2021

Half of the 1st round picks in the 2021 NBA Draft are either traded or have trade conditions tied to them. 27 of the 30 2nd round picks in the 2021 NBA draft also are either traded or have trade conditions tied to them. That has to be some kind of record.

Of course the Jazz have conditions tied to their 1st round pick (Utah's 1st round pick to Memphis protected for selections 1-7 and 15-30 in 2021, 1-6 in 2022, 1-3 in 2023 and 1 in 2024; if Utah has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Memphis by 2024, then Utah will instead convey its 2025 2nd round pick and 2026 2nd round pick to Memphis [Memphis-Utah, 7/6/2019]) and so Utah will keep the pick this year and it is likely to go to Memphis in 2022.

Utah's 2nd round pick is owned by the Pacers. They received the pick in the 2019 trade for 2019 2nd round pick (#55) Jarrell Brantley.

The Jazz do not currently own any other picks in the 2021 NBA Draft.

Basically, the Jazz don't have control of any draft picks until 2027 I believe it is. Though, I do expect to see them with some picks in the future via trades.

Here is a quick summary of the future Jazz picks:

2021 - Jazz have 1 first round pick:
      • Jazz 1st Round pick: Jazz pick to Grizzlies protected for 1-7 and 15-30. The pick will fall in the protected range so the conditions move forward to 2022 and the Jazz will keep this pick. This is from the 2019 Mike Conley trade.
      • Jazz 2nd Round pick: To Pacers in 2019 trade for the 2019 #55 pick Jarrell Brantley.

2022 - Jazz have no picks:
      • Jazz 1st Round pick: Jazz pick to Grizzlies protected for selections 1-6 in 2022. This pick should not fall in the protected range so would be owned by the Grizzlies (Mike Conley trade). Because there are future conditions, future picks tied to these conditions are not available for trade until this trade is completed.
      • Jazz 2nd Round pick: To Pelicans from Jazz in 2020 trade where Jazz got 2020 #39 pick Elijah Hughes.
      2023 - Jazz will have 1 1st round pick:
      • Jazz 1st Round pick: Jazz pick to Grizzlies protected for selections 1-3 in 2023. The pick is expected to be conveyed in 2022, but this pick cannot be traded until that trade is official (Mike Conley trade).
      • Jazz 2nd Round pick: To Knicks in a 2020 trade as compensation for the Knicks taking Ed Davis to free some money for resigning Jordan Clarkson.

      2024 - Jazz will have 1 1st round pick:
      • Jazz 1st Round pick: Jazz pick to Grizzlies protected for selection 1 in 2024; if Utah has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Memphis by 2024, then Utah will instead convey its 2025 2nd round pick and 2026 2nd round pick to Memphis. This pick is expected to be conveyed in 2022, but this pick cannot be traded until that trade is official (Mike Conley trade).
      • Jazz 2nd Round pick: To the Knicks or Pacers from Jazz from 2018 (Crowder/Hood) and 2020 (Ed Davis) trades. New York will receive the more favorable of Utah's 2024 2nd round pick and Cleveland's 2024 2nd round pick and Indiana will receive the less favorable of the two

2025 - Jazz own both of their picks
      • Jazz 1st Round pick: Jazz own the pick.
      • Jazz 2nd Round pick: This pick is tied up in the Mike Conley trade conditions. The pick is expected to be conveyed in 2022 and free up this pick from conditions.

2026 - Jazz own both of their picks
      • Jazz 1st Round pick: Jazz own the pick.
      • Jazz 2nd Round pick: This pick is tied up in the Mike Conley trade conditions. The pick is expected to be conveyed in 2022 and free up this pick from conditions.

      2027 - Jazz will have 1 1st round pick:
      • Jazz 1st Round pick: Jazz own the pick.
      • Jazz 2nd Round pick: To the Cavaliers in a 2020 trade along with Rayjon Tucker in exchange for cash.
The Jazz do not currently own any future picks from other teams.

I'd like to consider Zags' Ayayi or Drew Timme on that 30th. Maybe we can trade down for Timme and get something more.
