  • Donovan Mitchell - Rise to MVP

Sekou Smith just wrote an article which spotlighted 5 players that could be discussed this year as the league MVP. DM was on that short list. I don't see it happening this year, but he could easily be mentioned in the years to come.

In your eyes, what needs to happen this season to put DM on the list of MVP candidates?

        You guys are too funny.

Donovan will probably have to average 30 ppg to get into the discussion and make ESPN's top 10 highlight dunks every single game. It will happen eventually though.

I think you enjoy the game more if you don't know the rules. Anyway you're on the same wavelength as the referees. ~Jonathan Davies, 1995

Through 5 games Don has led the team in scoring twice, Bojan twice, and Conley once. That type of distributed scoring will keep him out of any type of MVP discussions, but it sure is nice to see the scoring burden lifted from him.

Best players in the NBA so far this season, according to RAPTOR wins above replacement. (All of this data will be public soon-ish.) 1. Donovan Mitchell 2. Damian Lillard 3. LeBron James 4. Kawhi Leonard 5. Luka Doncic 6. Karl-Anthony Towns (might be No. 1 if not for suspension)

25.9 ppg, 5.7 rpg, 3.9 apg with career high FG, 3PT and FT %'s. Not going to get into the MVP discussion with other guys out there doing crazy stuff, but that's pretty darn good. Should get him into the AS game.

In order for Donovan to get a top 3 finish in the MVP race, he'd need to have these 3 things happen:

                1. 50+ point game in New York.
                2. 50+ point game at Staples.
                3. Jazz sweep the Mavericks this season.
